Enjoy your Christmas!

December 23rd, 2009

Unlike previous years, this year Christmas is on a very low key affair where foods are concerned. I had my lasik eye surgery today at Optimax Penang. I dare not plan anything as I wasn’t sure if I will be able to handle all the cooking and etc.
However, the intra-lasik [...]

Penang Prawn Mee @ O & S Coffee Shop, Taman Paramount

December 20th, 2009

After trying Wah Kee Big Prawn Noodle, I have concluded that although it is very good and also impressive with the huge tiger prawns, taste wise the best ones are still in Malaysia – specifically Penang.
Unfortunately due to my current circumstances I seldom step into Penang island anymore, unless I am taking a flight home [...]

Nyonya Restaurant, SS2

December 3rd, 2009

nyonya1 Nyonya Restaurant, SS2

This is an old establishment that has been here for years and has undergone a facelift since I last ate there. Driving past the other day, decided to pop in again to see how the changes fare.

nyonya2 Nyonya Restaurant, SS2

Clean lines in the interior.

nyonya3 Nyonya Restaurant, SS2

This is the Gulai Tumis fish. The fish was cooked in this sour tamarind gravy with lady’s fingers (okra) and pineapple and garnished with laksa leaves, or more known as daun kesom. Piquant and slighly spicy, this dish can be addictive once paired with white rice.

nyonya4 Nyonya Restaurant, SS2

We also tried the Beef rendang. Flavourful but the meat was not as tender as I would like it.

nyonya5 Nyonya Restaurant, SS2

Ordered sayur paku or fiddlehead ferns which were stir-fried with succulent prawns. Crisp and fresh, enjoyed this too.

It’s comforting to know that this place’s food has remained consistent over the years. And they do have quite an array of other dishes to tickle anyone’s fancy.

Wah Kee Big Prawn Noodles – $10 Premium Prawn Noodle

November 26th, 2009

Is Wah Kee’s Big Prawn Noodle @ the ultimate Prawn Noodle? I would certainly want to think so, at least from the looks of the mega-sized tiger prawns.
The flesh the prawns are packing is thicker than two thumbs! Imagine sinking your teeth into those fleshy meats. But this kind of sensation doesn’t come cheap as [...]

Sauna Prawns @ Brother Yat Seafood Restaurant, Subang Jaya

October 24th, 2009

Sauna Prawns, did the title catch your attention yet? It is a dish found in Brother Yat, a seafood restaurant located off the beaten path – somewhere among the factories at Subang Jaya .
When I first heard and saw how this dish was prepared via photos taken by my friend, I was really intrigued. I [...]

Ismal Char Koay Teow @ Jalan Bunga Raya, Bukit Mertajam

October 13th, 2009

Went back to BM recently and had Ismal Char Koay Teow for dinner. It is still RM5 for a plate of Char Koay Teow Special, which comes with extra prawns, cockles and a sunny side up egg.

It still tasted as awesome like usual. But I realized I should have tried the Char Koay Teow in [...]

Eccucino @ Prince Hotel

April 26th, 2009

Buffets are sinful. Yup, say that again. Buffets are sinful.

Yet, we are constantly out there looking for the best deal in town. Tell me you ears don’t tingle at the slightest hint of a 50% discount on buffet lines or the latest launch of a Japanese buffets that offer 1+1?

Exactly.

But I always believe in getting what you pay for. For instance …. Eccucino at the Prince Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Now, that name may not ring a bell to many of you … me included but rest assured, when you’ve tried it … you’ll remember the name for good.

Prince Hotel is strategically located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur along the picturesque Jalan Conlay and across the road and just two minutes’ walk away, is Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Parking is ample in the basement of the hotel and once you get onto the ground floor, Eccucino is just overlooking the lobby. As you walk into Eccucino, your eyes will not miss the dessert spread, ESPECIALLY the 4-tier chocolate fountain.

Seriously, it was tempting. I walked straight towards the Chocolate fountain … dipped a nice, juicy stick of strawberry into the chocolate fondue and popped it right into my mouth and I did this before even being seated. Thinking back, now I feel a little “paiseh” (embarrassed) …..

But that feeling quickly dissipated once I was seated. Armed with an empty stomach and a hue appetite, I announced to myself … Let The Games Began! My first stop … the open grill. Slipper Prawns, beef patties, chicken slices … I gathered them up, one at a time. Then I headed over to the chef, shot a smile and a nod and he knew what to do.

While I left him to do what he does best, I headed over to the ’seafood’ area. I looked for an empty plate and spotted a small one. Not good enough … I spotted a bigger plate and quickly replaced it. I quickly reach out for those fresh and juicy looking prawns, shrimps … whatever you call it! At that moment, cholesterol seems like a foreign word.

Satisfied with what I have, my attention was diverted to the oysters. The royal produce of nature. I told myself, I’ll start with one. I sprinkled some Tabasco sauce on it. I took a lemon slice and headed back to my table. Halfway across, I turned back and loaded another 5 more…..

Yup, you’ll laugh now .. but wait until you’re in that condition, you’ll understand my predicaments. Back at my table, my grilled items sat there .. waiting to be savored. Good thing I had friends with me … else it looks like I am trying to transfer the whole buffet spread onto my table. I looked around, shot a stare at the lady next to me … smiled and dug in.

And … did I mention that Wednesday’s are “Grilled to Perfection” day in Eccucino? Well, the reason is simply clear. I’ve simply tasted one of the best grills in town. Not too dry, not too burnt. It’s just perfect. Given a choice, I would go for second helping. Then again, I need space for dessert, don’t I?

Lunch @ Kek Seng, Jalan Penang, Penang

April 16th, 2009

Kek Seng is a 100 years old coffeeshop which this is a prewar coffeshop. This coffeeshop is famous among the locals in Penang as well as tourist . Some of the famous food from here inclusive of the Asam Laksa, as well as the Ais Kachang.. and its famous durian ice cream.. I din order de Ais Kacang but we ordered some other stuff

Lunch @ Kek Seng, Jalan Penang, Penang

Loh Bak here is famous as well according to my dad. My dad claims that the lo bak here is very nice.. which I also agree. There are varieties you are able to choose from the loh bak itself, fried sting ray, fried taufu, fried Taiwan sausage and fried prawns .. and lots more.. The lo bak here is usually served hot which make it taste nice.. and together with the loh ( sauce) and the spicy chilly sauce make them even nicer.

As a Laksa lover, how can I say I resist Laksa, Laksa here is not bad … though is not in my Grade 1++ diary.. but its still nice and oishi. The asam laksa here is also one of the popular one which I can say is not bad and nice. Just is not as nice as the one in Greenlane.. that’s wat I love the most .

Lunch @ Kek Seng, Jalan Penang, Penang

-Asam Laksa-

We also ordered popiah and the taste is very nice well. the popiah nice.. and oishi … and not bad.. ? and is nice and tasty ..
