Soul Kitchen Trattoria – A touch of Italian with soul music and food

A lot of soul put in the cooking and hopefully lots of soul music to refresh your little soul on sunny Penang Island. Soul Kitchen Trattoria tucked away on Muntri Street in a pre-war house is the place to visit if you are looking for great eats in a laid back ambiance. This restaurant, barely a Continue reading

House Frankfurt, Bangsar.

Lissie and I were talking about watching a Germany match in House Frankfurt along with the many Germans that frequent the restaurant but as the intended match would only start at 2:30am, we decided we would have dinner there instead. House Frankfurt, according to their website is the oldest German restaurant in KL. Considering that 80% of the tables had at least one caucasian occupying it, I would guess that this place does serve rather traditional fare that reminds them of home. Continue reading

Breakfast at Eng Loh Coffee Shop, Church Street Penang

One of my favorite breakfast joints in Penang is Eng Loh Coffee Shop in the heart of Georgetown. It is located at the end of Church Street, diagonally across the Pinang Peranakan Mansion and is exceptionally crowded during lunch hour. Besides serving good coffee, the coffee shop operator also serves choices of Western breakfast of sausages Continue reading

Pyramid Shaped Hainan Chicken Rice @ Wiya Coffee Restoran

Do you know how many shapes chicken rice can take in Malaysia? As far as I know there are three with the most common one served in a semi-spherical or bowl shaped. We can all agree there’s nothing fancy about this. Continue reading

Vienna International Seafood & Teppanyaki Buffet @ United Square, Singapore

Vienna International Seafood & Teppanyaki Buffet @ United Square was the first buffet I had in Singapore. It was recommended by a colleague of mine, who mentioned their spread of seafood was worthy of the $38.80/adult. Among some notable seafoods available were the rare Spanner crab, slipper lobster, fresh oyster, crayfish, sashimi and abalone Continue reading

Lean Gaik Hokkien Mee @ Chai Leng Park – Avoid it

If you happen to chance upon Lean Gaik Hokkien Mee at Chai Leng Park, all I can say is avoid it. Years ago when I was doing my industrial training at Perai, I went there once or twice before and decided that their Hokkien Mee was above average at best, didn’t really like it at Continue reading

Duck Thigh Noodles @ Pun Chun Chicken Biscuits & Restaurant, Bidor

Happy New Year 2010 everyone! Overall, 2009 was quite a sad year for the world. Let’s hope 2010 will be a good one! Mention Bidor and food like duck thigh noodle, chicken biscuit (Kai Jai Peng) and ‘Sat Kei Ma‘ (squarish, sweet dessert made of flour and chicken eggs) immediately come to mind. For frequent travelers Continue reading
