Located on the ground floor of the Hotel Vitale, it’s main architectural feature is a large patio that runs the length of the restaurant and faces the bay. With heat lamps, plenty of tables, chairs and even couches, it’s one of my … Continue reading

Favourite Malaysian food – Otak-otak

By: Adline A. Ghani When I was little, I had convinced myself that the popular Malaysian food item, otak-otak , is made of brains, as ‘ otak ,’ in Malay, literally means ‘brain.’ I mean, with a name like that and the squishy texture, what else was a little girl supposed to think? Continue reading

Leftover with Thanks

Over the years, what I’ve learned about Thanksgiving dinner is, that my interest lies in leftovers. Rather than get crafty with indigenous grain stuffing or made from scratch pumpkin soup served in a hallowed out pumpkin, I far more look forward to the sum of leftovers begging to be played with in the following days. Not because I don’t want to shower my family and friends with delectable treats from my kitchen, no- I just know that two makers on the rocks and several glasses of wine in, my soft focus vision and bleeding heart will be aimed at the company I’m in, not what is on my plate. Breakfast at Eng Loh Coffee Shop, Church Street Penang

One of my favorite breakfast joints in Penang is Eng Loh Coffee Shop in the heart of Georgetown. It is located at the end of Church Street, diagonally across the Pinang Peranakan Mansion and is exceptionally crowded during lunch hour. Besides serving good coffee, the coffee shop operator also serves choices of Western breakfast of sausages Continue reading

Gattopardo Italian Bar & Grill – Pizza

Of late, my favourite “go-to” pizza place is Gattopardo Italian Grill & Bar . Why I like the pizza here is that it serves up Neapolitan-style pizzas baked in an impressive huge brick-oven, offers a wide selection offering both traditional and unconventional toppings and most importantly, has an authentic taste Continue reading

Porridge

I will be the first to admit I seldom eat food that we normally associate and categorize loosely as “Chinese”. But porridge is one comfort dish that I could hardly say no to, on days where I am just too sick and tired to taste and to chew, and on days that are particularly cold and chilly. Continue reading

My Favourite Lemon Tart

Most foodies would be aware that we are into Singapore’s inaugural Restaurant Week this week. Meant to be a great opportunity to indulge in fine dining without hurting one’s wallet too badly, I signed up for one of the restaurant’s dinner (intentionally leaving out the name of the restaurant).
